That's seven wins and a draw from the last eight, and aren't we happy about that down at Gosch's Paddock? And top of the ladder, too. Go Pies!
Eddie just can't quite keep that smirk off his face. Keep the lid on it? You've got to be joking. Not when we've won one flag in 52 years and we're top of the bloody ladder. No, we're flying and why shouldn't we tell the world about it?
Lids? They're for losers.
Yep, she's all sailing along beautifully down at Pie Park. Sweet as a nut. Dids is rolling out the barrels from 65 metres. Beamsie and Pendles, how well are they going? ‘Dazzler' Jolly's got to be close to the recruit of the year. Or if he doesn't get it, Lukie Ball's a monty.
Swannie keeps racking up the blinders. Untaggable. Yep, that's Swannie. And what about the artwork he's got half-finished on his left arm. Awesome or what? Should have it all finished by the time of the Copeland presentation.
Neon Leon, back to his 500-watt best. Daisy's never played better and Clokey's now up and about, too.
Even Brownie, old Leigh Brown, the bloke North Melbourne supporters thought couldn't get a kick in Tommy Smith's stable, the bloke they thought was part of some sick Fremantle trade joke. He's slaying ‘em, too.
How well are we going? Even Josh, Jack and Medders can't get a game.
Mick's got his wins tally up to 358, putting him equal third with Jeansy, and only behind Big Jock and Sheeds. So Mick's in career-best form, too.
So when you think about it, the timing's all coming together like a dream. The premiership clock is at five-to-midnight at Pieland and pretty soon we're going to hear the bells chime and you know what that will mean? Yep, it'll be flag o'clock at Maggie-land. Ding dong.
We've given Carlton a good ol' going over this year, and St Kilda, too. And the Bulldogs, and Freo and Hawthorn. We've crushed them all. All the ''contenders'' for the flag, we've given ‘em a hiding.
And now Geelong this Saturday. We've got 'em rattled. They're worried, I can just tell. We're coming to get ‘em - and you can tell them that from me. The black-and-white army, we're on the march. If you're with us, get on board; if you're not, get out of the way. 1958, 1990, 2010 ... I can feel it in my waters; this is our year. ''Side by side we stick together to uphold the Magpie name ....''
Sure they've got a couple of OK players - Ablett's not bad and that Bartel's handy. I spose Scarlett and Taylor go all right. And Stevie J sometimes pulls a few out of his clacker. Oh yeah, Chapman and Corey and Selwood and Kelly and Enright and Mackie and Stokes and Ottens and Wojcinski and Hunt and Ling and Mooney and Tomahawk and JPod, I guess they're half-decent. Occasionally. On a good day.
But didn't we give them a hammering back in '08? That Round 9 game at the 'G'. Absolutely belted 'em - 86 points. Yeah, two-and-a-half years ago.
Since then? How've we gone against them since then? Well, we've won one of the past six. And come close a couple of times.
And Geelong? Well, let's think: they've won two of the last three flags. And they're second on the ladder, just a few percentage points behind us, and they've won 11 of the past 13 matches this year. And actually one of those wins came in round 9, by 36 points. Against us. And they also beat us in last year's prelim by 12 .... goals.
But still, ancient history. Who cares about that? We're on the march, the black-and-white army, and we're going to tell the world. One game at a time? Give me a break. Listen, I've told you once, and I'm not going to tell you again, lids are for losers. OK?
