While team selections at Geelong and Collingwood take on greater prominence heading into Saturday night's top-of-the-table blockbuster at the MCG, it's not only the clubs that will, as expected, make changes.
Another super-charged and cut-throat AFL environment - the radio broadcasting teams that bring the games alive into the homes of millions across the nation - already have some "ins" and "outs" of their own.
Such is the magnitude of a match many feel is a grand final preview, that not only will host broadcaster Channel Ten televise it live in Melbourne from 7.10pm, rather than on a customary half-hour delay, but radio networks have been busy ensuring their A-grade talent relays all the action.
At 3AW, marquee commentator Brian Taylor and special comments man Matthew Richardson have been pulled from their customary Saturday-afternoon slot, which this week would have been the clash between North Melbourne and Fremantle from Etihad Stadium.
Taylor and Richardson, both former Richmond spearheads, will now provide 3AW with greater profile by joining the customary Saturday-night voices of David King, Shane McInness and Graeme Bond at the MCG.
Tony Leonard has been "dropped" in favour of Taylor, and will join Dennis Cometti for the afternoon match, along with special comments men Leigh Matthews and Scott Cummings.
3AW will also broadcast live among the fans from outside the MCG from 5pm, much like it would in the hours leading into the grand final.
"We are going to have a slightly shorter review from the North and Fremantle match, and we will have an extra hour to preview the Geelong and Collingwood game," Bond, also 3AW's director of football, said.
"You have got to go where the crowds are and, in due respect to North Melbourne and Fremantle, we don't expect that to be a blockbuster."
Meanwhile, Triple M has made the one change for Saturday night's game, with lead caller James Brayshaw replacing Hamish McLachlan.
The timing worked well for the station, as Brayshaw was unavailable for his customary afternoon slot anyway because of his duties as North Melbourne president.
He will now join special comments men Billy Brownless and Nathan Brown at the MCG, while McLachlan will work with Rex Hunt and Garry Lyon at Etihad Stadium.
At the ABC, No.1 caller Gerard Whateley will be at the MCG, while veteran Drew Morphett and special comments man Mark Maclure will be sent to the SCG to link up with the local team covering the rare Sydney afternoon clash between the Swans and Hawthorn.
Whateley will be joined by Rob Waters and special comments pair Chris Grant and Chris Connolly.
Whateley said it was boost for radio that the clash would be live on Ten as fans could press the mute button on their television remotes and listen to their favourite radio callers.
"If there is a half-hour delay, people tend to watch the telly, I reckon," he said.
"Everyone can wait half-hour. But Friday nights are a different story, an hour's wait, there's the issue of going to bed at 11pm."
As for 24-hour sports network SEN, its contractual obligations means it must cover Saturday night's "mockbuster" - Brisbane versus West Coast from Subiaco Oval.
"We get second choice on a Saturday," director of football Ross Flegeltaub said.
"It's a pity we can't call it but, then again, Saturday-night radio is regarded as a bit of a graveyard shift."
"It's not the biggest ratings by a long shot. Most people are out or at home watching telly.
"That's why you find the weaker radio (commentary) teams are on Saturday night."
