Pass: Lionel Richie
The AFL took a lot of heat after the announcement that it had procured Richie as part of the pregame entertainment for the replay. But the ‘80s superstar showed what a true pro he was by turning in a superb performance that had much of the crowd dancing. Ritchie was light years beyond the J.D. Fortune-led INXS. Bonus points for singing the Commodores' classic "Easy."
Fail: Channel Seven
A failure of epic proportions by not being able to broadcast in HD. I understand that NRL, Commonwealth Games and World Cycling commitments tied up the necessary equipment, but if players and fans were expected to saddle up one more time, shouldn't the broadcaster have to as well? This was the most important game of the year, and one of the few not shown in HD.
Pass: Bruce McAvaney
Dennis Cometti gets most of the praise from critics and fans, but Bruce put in two superb back-to-back efforts. His calls were sharp, his humour improved and his professionalism always evident.
Fail: Tim Watson
His rambling postgame question to Luke Ball went on for 30 seconds and while it probably wasn't his fault, it prevented Ball from joining his Collingwood teammates in singing the song.
Pass: The AFL and Leon Davis' medal
Despite the fact that Davis played poorly in Grand Final I and was dropped for Grand Final II, he still deserves his medal. Classy move by the AFL to recognise the winning team - in both games.
Pass: Luke Ball
The discarded Saint racked up 25 possessions and earned a Premiership medal a year after falling short with St. Kilda.
Fail: Stephen Milne and Steven Baker
13 possessions between them and no real impact on the game.
Pass: Brendon Goddard
Two heroic Grand Final performances left no doubt that he is an elite player and a never-say-die competitor.
Fail: The Herald Sun's Collingwood Premiership Poster
The inclusion of multiple tattoos on the cartoon Magpie - while done in good fun - is essentially representative of just a couple of Collingwood players.
Fail: Arnold Briedis
The former North Melbourne star pulled a Steve Bracks, bumbling his way through the Norm Smith medal announcement, pronouncing Scott Pendlebury's surname "Emble-bree."
Pass: Alan Didak's postgame interview
Great line at the end about wanting to "get rid of all the corporates and bring the Collingwood army in."
Fail: MCC Members
Either make the call to allow restricted members into the ground, or sell a few more public tickets at 1pm. At least 5000 seats were vacant in the MCC and in 2010, having walk-up access to the biggest day in Australian sport is an anachronism.
