It all stems from his remarks in The Age last week that he doesn't believe in belittling players if they've made a mistake.
North legend, Adelaide premiership coach and now Channel Ten commentator Malcolm Blight could barely hide his disgust at those remarks during the broadcast on Saturday night and a transcript of what he said can be found here on the Herald Sun website.
And opinion is divided as to what Scott may have said in the sanctity of the North rooms.
Writing on the AFL website on Tuesday, Leigh Matthews seemed to think that Scott would have been calm and measured. Lethal coached Scott for eight years, so few AFL commentators would know him better.
However the night before, on Fox Sports On The Couch, James Hird went the other way. After showing some vision of a calm and collected Scott talking to his team at quarter-time, Hird remarked that it was likely to have been a different story and that Scott would have delivered an almighty spray to his team following the humiliating defeat.
It's a fascinating discussion and cuts to the heart of modern coaching.
But it is interesting to observe that the old-timer (Matthews) believes that Scott did and should adopt a softly-softly approach, while the recently-retired Hird, felt that an old-fashioned blast might have been the way to go.
It should be noted that our own Wayne Carey, said on The Wayne Carey podcast on Tuesday that a bit of verbal never hurt any player. Except for Glenn Freeborn, apparently.
Of course, if you do have a view, or you think you know what took place, be sure to drop us a line at BPL and let us know.
