Bet of the Day - February 3rd

Another marquee matchup in the EPL this weekend to whet our appetite.

Man United travel to Stamford Bridge for the glamour fixture against Chelsea.

With Man City losing midweek to Everton the title race is wide open. Both teams, to my mind, are still leaking goals too many goals. Remember Arsenal's recent visit produced a 5-3 result!

The Reds have defensives woes with their centrebacks/keepers unsettled all season.

The Blues have England captain John Terry out of form and constantly under siege this year on all fronts!

To me, it looks like goals, goals and more goals.

$50 on Man United v Chelsea - aggregate goals over 2.5 at $1.82

(It's also worth bearing in mind that there's a $60,000 jackpot available on VICTAB tonight on the Melton harness racing quaddie.

And, again with VICTAB, a $100,000 jackpot on the BIG 6 at the Caulfield races.)

Bet of the Day - February 2nd

When you're on a good thing .....

The pickings are pretty slim this week but why look any further than any cricket match vs India?

The Twenty20 big bash comes to Melbourne on Friday night followed by the one-dayer on Sunday.

After watching another inept India display last night, it seems any price on Australia looks good!

My advice is to jump all over the Aussies again and let it ride for the Sunday one-dayer.

Seems like India will be preoccupied with Sachin Tendulkar getting that elusive century rather than winning a game!

$50 on Australia to beat India in Twenty20 Game 2 at $1.55

Bet of the Day - February 1st

The Test series nightmare is over for India and tonight in Sydney they get a chance to restore some pride and save some face.

After the schemozzle of the 4-0 whitewash, the Indians can now throw caution to the wind and chance their arm, and eye, a bit more. So welcome to the first big bash international Twenty20 of the summer.

The Indians will have a new look team at the SCG. A few of the boys are just 'off the boat' while those remaining are still scarred by the Aussies, particularly the batsmen who will be having nightmares about Hilfenhaus, Siddle, Pattinson and co.

The Aussies are cock-a-hoop and will want to keep the visitors winless. They'll have a new look about them, too, with Matt Wade replacing Brad Haddin behind the stumps and George Bailey stepping into Cameron White's role as captain.

I know these matches tend to be coin flips but until India show some form, cohesion and backbone, I'm sticking with the home side.

$50 on Australia to beat India in the T20 tonight at $1.65

Bet of the Day - January 31st

Wow ... how good was the tennis? (Not to mention finding winner after winner!)

Let's switch our attention to the NFL and this weekend's Super Bowl which features Tom Brady (New England Patriots) vs Eli Manning (New York Giants).

This is a serious payback game which the Patriots just cannot lose - for their own self respect.

Several years ago, they went into this game undefeated, with a perfect 16-0 season plus two playoff wins, only to fall at the final hurdle.

And guess who were the spoilers? Yep, that ring on Eli's finger is the real deal!

The Patriots will be just like Djoko and Rafa on Sunday night: they will leave it all on the field. They've got too much motivation to lose - and that's a powerful thing in a contest this even.

$50 on the Patriots to defeat the Giants at $1.65

Bet of the Day - January 27th

Well, I have to say the odds being quoted on Rafa yesterday were ridiculously generous and I hope you all joined me in the TAB betting queue to take advantage of the $2.45 (as Nadal drifted out to) on offer.

Honestly, it was like finding money in the street.

But while Nadal 'owns' Roger Federer and seems to have a psychological hold over him, the same thing applies to Novak Djokovic and Nadal. The Joker has won the last six straight against Rafa and who, 18 months ago, would ever have thought that possible?

Anyway, to reach the Australian Open final against Nadal on Sunday, Djokovic first has to get past Andy Murray in their semi tonight.

I can't see the world No.1 losing here, although reports from Melbourne Park would suggest that Murray's new coach Ivan Lendl has brought a new mental toughness to his charge. And the Scotsman's form thus far has been impressive.

So I reckon it'll be close and might even stretch to a fifth set. And once he's through, Djokovic should steamroll his way to another Grand Slam title.

$20 on Djokovic to beat Murray 3-2 sets at $6.20
$30 on Djokovic to win the Australian Open at $2.10

Bet of the Day - January 26th

I'm licking my wounds after Roger Federer's straight-sets dismantling of Juan Martin del Potro two days ago. I think del Potro will have a big year in 2012 but obviously wasn't quite up to the task this week.

Anyway, getting back on my horse (and clearly having learnt nothing from that mistake), I'm going to back against the Fed again.

I think Rafa is great odds tonight against the Swiss champ.

While Rafa can't seem to lay a glove on Djokovic at the moment, he all but owns Roger. He's won seven of their last eight meetings in Grand Slams and just seems to find a way to dismantle Federer.

He might have a wonky knee - which is partly why he's the underdog in this match up - but I'll be backing Nadal. You never die wondering with him.

$50 Nadal to beat Federer at $2.35

The Aussie Open tennis has been nothing short of spectacular and today we revisit a famous Grand Slam final from 2009.

Roger Federer takes on Juan Martin Del Poltro who won his maiden slam coming from two sets down in the US Open, beating the Swiss in one of tennis' great upsets.

My spies tell me after a year out with injury, Del Potro is approaching some of his best form.

It won't be easy for Roger - especially in the heat - and I expect the match to go the distance again.

So let's try:

$30 on Del Potro to beat Federer at $4.00
$20 on Federer to win 3-2 sets at $6.50
