Don't ever get sucked in to 'prop' bets (proposition bets loved by gamblers the world over!)
For example, if someone offers you a deal that looks just too easy to bet and win. Often, all is not what it seems because a lot of these prop bets are mathematically worked out.
Here's an example: how many people do you need in a room for it to be 50/50 that any two have the same birthday.
The number is surprisingly quite low ..... 23 in fact.
So if there are 24 people in a room its likely that two will share an identical birthday! So don't bet against it.
The next one is quite tricky and derived from Benford's law .... a prediliction for the obvious.
A maths professor gives 20 students a task: toss a coin 200 times and record the data -10 do it legitimately;10 fake the data.He then looks closely at the results and correctly predicts which ones were legit and which ones were fake!!
How does he do it? Well the 'trick' is that it is 96% likely that there will be a run of at least 6 heads or 6 tails so you are almost sure to see this streak in the authentic data.
But those faking it tend not include such long streaks as they think those sequences will look fake. In fact, it's the give-away that it is not real data!
Let's move onto the other AFL footy final this weekend.
Geelong coach Mark Thompson and the playing list are seething over the manner and result of their loss to St Kilda .... too bad guys it was a 50/50 call and you lost!
They have a near full list playing Fremantle who have not played the MCG this year and have some players who have in fact never played there at all!I think the 'machine' will roll into gear early and blow them skinny boys away.
$50 Geelong (by 39.5+ pts vs Fremantle) at $1.95
