PETER MOODY might just have a spring Cups contender in three-start veteran FAIRY OAK (three-year-old filly by High Chaparral - Queen Caelia, by Sir Tristram).

Her sire is going gangbusters off his AJC Australian Derby trifecta, and black-type racing is a distinct possibility for this miss, going off her five lengths cakewalk at Kyneton last Monday.

That margin increased with every bound down the stretch and she's bred to be good - her dam is a half-sister to Kiwi Group 1 winner Field Dancer, plus Sydney-Brisbane Cup winner Just A Dancer.

Kembla's Gwenda Markwell saddled up a Randwick quinella last Saturday but earlier in the day MINNISAW (three-year-old filly by Magic Albert - Seesaw, by Sea Swell) did her astute trainer proud at Kembla.

Start number six for this miss resulted in a hollow 2.3 lengths maiden win over 1200m. She cruised through her final 100m.

Gwenda would know a fair bit about this filly's quirks, having trained her dam to win eight races.

Another superb NSW non-metro trainer is Ross Stitt, original trainer and part owner of Group 1 AJC Oaks-Arrowfield Stud Stakes winner Heavenly Glow.

So, no prizes how ANOTHER GLOW (two-year-old filly by Spinning World - Just Pamela, by Thunder Gulch) acquired her name.

Like the dual Group 1 winner, this filly was defeated upon debut when a fast-finishing second in a 1267m Taree maiden last Monday.

A sweet-moving filly, the youngster would have scored in one more stride and she's city standard for sure.

With the advent of Sky Racing World on May 4, it's worth following a couple of Dubai-owned French colts through the European season.

Sheikh Mohammed's CHASING HALOS (three-year-old colt by Elusive Quality - Ballado's Halo, by Saint Ballado) created a fine impression upon debut at Longchamp, parking off the pace then sprinting rapidly.

Look out for anything trained by this one's conditioner, Andre Fabre - he's one of the best in the business.

And former top rider Freddie Head trains MUBTASSIM (three-year-old colt by Red Ransom - Style Setter, by Manila), a first-up winner over 2000m at Longchamp last Tuesday.

Winner of two from four, this big bay might just be French Derby material for Sheikh Mohammed's full-brother Sheikh Hamdan.

Tony Brassel is senior form analyst with Sky Racing.
