So why can't Shocking can't ''do a Viewed'' and win the Caulfield Cup a year after scoring a huge win in the Melbourne Cup? It seems the Mark Kavanagh trained five-year-old is going better than ever and he's ready to carry top weight of 57kg and win.
His win first-up in the Makybe Diva Stakes at $18 caught most punters off guard, but it signalled he was going to be a huge player in any race he contests this spring.
He then had little luck in the Underwood being held up for a considerable distance before hitting the line to be beaten 4.2 lengths to the star of the carnival so far, So You Think.
His run in the Turnbull, when second to Zipping, was again without luck and with clearer running might have won.
Three excellent runs leading into the Caulfield Cup suggest he's ready to explode.
Shocking's Caulfield form doesn't match up with his record at Flemington however it's by no means poor, and don't worry about a possible wet track - he handles all types of going.
He's clearly looking for the 2400 metres and the 57kg won't be enough to stop this strong son of Street Cry.
His trainer is ready to bounce back with a big win as well. Kavanagh watched in disbelief as So You Think toyed with his other stable star Whobegotyou in the Group One Yalumba stakes last Saturday. His luck is about the change in the Caulfield Cup and Michael Rodd is a big race jockey who should get a nice run from a middle gate.
Alcopop, who was beating Shocking this time last year at Caulfield, turned in his best run for 12 months last Saturday in the Yalumba, however the outside barrier has not helped his chances.
Metal Bender looks suited to the 2400 metres and will not be worried if the track is worse than dead, his form is near faultless. The best outsider in the race is Harris Tweed who bounced back with a last start win at Flemington. The Murray and Bjorn Baker trained Kiwi is a real stayer and he loves the wet.
My Caulfield Cup tips: Shocking to beat Metal Bender, Alcopop and Harris Tweed.
