Trainer David Vandyke is hoping to upstage the more fancied stables at Rosehill on Saturday with his in-form gelding Lamasery.

Following four successive victories, Lamasery lines up in the Sky High Stakes at Rosehill and has drawn to be right on the pace from an inside alley.

Vandyke admits Lamasery has been a pleasant surprise this campaign saying he was hoping to crack it for a win in the metropolitan area because he's never been out of the placings in 10 starts.

The one concern for Vandyke is Lamasery is meeting a few of his rivals worse in the weights but will still carry only 53 kilograms.

Vandyke has been around racing for a good portion of his life. He began training 15 to 20 years ago, winning a premiership at Kembla Grange in 1989 and also saluted in a Gloaming Stakes with Constant Flight.

He worked with the likes of Tim Martin and Chris Waller in their racing offices for a short period but now with support from owner Sam Mayer, he's back at Warwick Farm.

If the right result comes in the Sky High, Vandyke promises a pretty special reception for Lamasery.

FOR THOSE getting to Rosehill on Saturday or watching Sky Racing, watch out for the qualities of New Zealand whiz-kid jockey, James McDonald.

As a one-off, McDonald rode at the Hawkesbury Gold Cup meeting last November but he's been patiently waiting for a good horse to bring him across to the Sydney Carnival.

That horse is Keep The Peace who faces an extremely tough test against Maluckyday in the Ranvet Stakes. Keep The Peace arrived in Sydney late on Monday night after completing her fastwork last Saturday.

McDonald took Keep The Peace for a light canter today (Friday) and the team, including trainer Shaun Ritchie, are confident she can match it with Australia's best weight-for-age horses.

TALKING of mares, Tasmanian Lady Lynette is back in Sydney attempting to go a few placings better than 12 months ago in the Group One Coolmore Classic. Co-trainer Dave Brunton said Lady Lynette had bounced back pretty quickly from a hard run behind Pinker Pinker last Saturday. Remarkably, the mare has barrier one in the Coolmore, the same as last year, but Brunton doesn't want a similar result when Lady Lynette didn't get clear.

TRAINER Peter Snowden will head to Rosehill on Saturday with most attention on Blue Diamond winner Sepoy.  However, his runner in the Coolmore Classic is on target to return with a good run. Speaking on Sky Sports Radio, Snowden said Purple has had a different lead-up to a first-up 1500 metre race saying they didn't want to waste a run, when she normally performs so well fresh.

AT THE Gold Coast on Saturday, Epsom winner Captain Sonador resumes in a 1200-metre $100,000 race. Following one trial in Brisbane, trainer Roger Milne is confident the horse has enough fitness to carry 60.5 kilograms to win. Milne feels Captain Sonador is well in on weights compared to horses like Poor Judge.

AND finally, Kutchinsky takes another step forward on Saturday at Caulfield.

Trainer Tony Noonan says the four-year-old has improved at each start from a lengthy break and Saturday's race will bring him to his absolute peak.

Also at Caulfield, Stanzout returns for Cranbourne trainer Colin Davies. Stanzout has to carry 59.5 kilograms but the horse is used to carrying weight and can perform well first-up.
