There's a very interesting runner in the first race at Randwick on Saturday - Startreusse, an impressive winner on debut when owned by BC3 Thoroughbreds but recently bought by the Ingham family.

Leading trainer, Chris Waller, will continue to train the two-year-old colt.

Simon Marshall from BC3 Thoroughbreds told me he was surprised when Startreusse was passed in at a ready-to-run sale in Victoria but he wasn't surprised about the interest from Hong Kong following the Canterbury win on May 18.

All parties have been reluctant to say what the Ingham family paid for Startreusse but after a 17-length trial win last week, it may be money well spent.

THE last race at Canterbury on Saturday will mark the return of the once very talented galloper, Viking Legend.

Formerly trained by Gai Waterhouse, Viking Legend is now with Warwick Farm trainers Ross Simpson and Tracey Barnes and, following two recent trials, is ready for his 1400-metre return.

Viking Legend injured a tendon after last year's Randwick Guineas but the owners were keen to give him another campaign.

As a three-year-old in 2009, Viking Legend ran placings in the AAMI Vase and Victoria Derby before finishing second in the Randwick Guineas 15 months ago.

Ross Simpson said on Viking Legend's track work that he should run a good race.

KIWI-trained Klose will be attempting to make it consecutive wins in Sydney when he lines up at Randwick. Trainer Mike Breslin said the horse has made great improvement from the Rosehill win saying it was his first ever run going right-handed, and unusually sweated up badly.

Jockey Nathan Berry has galloped Klose a couple of times since Rosehill and the horse certainly has settled in a lot better.

Breslin has no issues going to 1600 saying if he performs well, there's an 1800 metre race a week later.

STAR Thoroughbreds have two key runners on Saturday.

Charing Cross represents the Waterhouse stable in the Group One Queensland Derby and despite the horse going in as one of the lightly raced three-year-olds, Nash Rawiller feels he can be competitive.

Meanwhile, a one-time Stradbroke contender, Squamosa, returns in the June Stakes at Randwick.

Denise Martin from Star Thoroughbreds told me this week that a sequence of trials being cancelled due to wet tracks caused Gai to bypass Brisbane but Squamosa's gallop last Saturday morning indicated he's primed for a return.

AT Flemington, Sport Chic has trained on extremely well since her last-start victory at Caulfield.

Bought for $250,000 from a Magic Millions Sale, trainer Clinton McDonald would prefer to run on a slow track saying the filly has a good turn of speed.

Making the natural progression to 1400 metres at Flemington, Sport Chic is expected to be ridden more off the pace on Saturday.

DON'T forget it's one of the great weeks of international racing coming up at Royal Ascot.

Starting on Tuesday night, Sky Racing World will cover each race over the week, with live interviews at Royal Ascot presented by David Raphael.

At this stage, Star Witness will line up in the King's Stand on Tuesday night with Hinchinbrook in the Golden Jubilee Stakes on Saturday night.

IN harness racing, star trotter Sundon's Gift makes his return to racing at Tabcorp Park Melton tonight.

Ironically Sundon's Gift goes around in the Trotters FFA named after himself, and following a second against the pacers in a trial at Kilmore on Tuesday, trainer Chris Lang feels Sundon's Gift is capable of winning.
