Week One was full of surprises, and Australian viewers got to see a few of them live. The Redskins upset their archrivals the Cowboys, while the Chiefs stunned the Chargers on Monday Night (Tuesday morning here) Football.
This week, we've got five live games, all of which feature teams coming off disappointing losses. The Vikings, Cowboys, Jets, Colts and 49ers will all be desperate for wins to avoid starting the season 0-2.
Week 2 games on Australian television
Monday, 3am, One HD
Miami Dolphins (1-0) @ Minnesota Vikings (0-1)
TAB Sportsbet line: Minnesota -5.5
Reason to watch: 40 year old Brett Favre is back for another season, but will his worn-out body hold up? The Vikings laid an egg in their season opening loss to New Orleans, while the Dolphins beat Buffalo 15-10. Look for Miami to use the "Wildcat" formation, where running back Ronnie Brown takes the direct snap, then runs or throws.
Monday, 3am, Fox Sports
Chicago Bears (1-0) @ Dallas Cowboys (0-1)
TAB Sportsbet line: Dallas -8.5
Reason to watch: To see if Dallas can improve on that abominable performance from Week 1. Penalties and mistakes cost them dearly in a 13-7 loss to the Redskins. The Bears are coming off a lucky win over Detroit, thanks to that controversial (although correct) call that prevented the Lions' Calvin Johnson from scoring the winning touchdown.
Monday, 6:15am, One HD
New England Patriots (1-0) @ New York Jets (0-1)
TAB Sportsbet line: NY Jets +2.5
Reason to watch: Despite coming in Week 2 of a 16-game schedule, this is a very important game, since both these teams see themselves as kings of the AFC East division. The Jets were massively disappointing on offense last week in a loss to the Ravens, while the Patriots looked good in a 38-24 victory over Cincinnati. Keep an eye on New England's wide receivers: Wes Welker had a superb opening game, nine months after tearing his ACL, while Randy Moss complained about not being wanted by the Patriots.
Monday, 10am, ESPN, One HD
New York Giants (1-0) @ Indianapolis Colts (0-1)
TAB Sportsbet line: Indianapolis -5.5
Reason to watch: Manning vs Manning. Older brother Peyton quarterbacks the Colts, while Eli leads the Giants. Both have won Super Bowls and both are outstanding players. New York handled Carolina last week, while Indianapolis lost to Houston. We'll learn a lot about the Colts after this one.
Tuesday, 10:30am, ESPN
New Orleans Saints (1-0) @ San Francisco 49ers (0-1)
TAB Sportsbet line: San Francisco +5.5
Reason to watch: San Francisco was everyone's pick to win the NFC West division, but they were blown out on opening day by the Seattle Seahawks. Now they have to rebound against the defending Super Bowl champions. The 49ers heralded defense could not stop Seattle, so what will they do against Drew Brees and the high-octane Saints? And can San Francisco QB Alex Smith get his offense in gear?
(In these weekly previews, I've gone with the American method of listing the visiting team first, then the home team second.
As far as the TAB Sportsbet odds, there are plenty of different ways to bet, but I've gone with the one most popular in American football, where the underdog is given points that are added to their score.)
