It's all about hockey, netball and shooting rifles this week, as the Commonwealth Games continues to kick the NFL to the curb on One HD. Just three live games this week on Fox and ESPN, but at least they have interesting storylines, including the return of Randy Moss to Minnesota and Brett Favre under siege from the tabloids.
Week 5 games on Australian television
Monday, 4 am, Fox Sports
New York Giants (2-2) @ Houston Texans (3-1)
TAB Sportsbet line: Houston -3.5
Reason to watch: The Texans are off to their best start ever, and are leading the AFC South. Running back Arian Foster has been a real surprise (and the only good thing about my winless fantasy team), while Matt Schaub is your prototypical strong-armed NFL quarterback. The Giants got back on track last week with a comprehensive win over Chicago, and while Eli Manning gets the headlines, it's the defense that makes this team go.
Monday, 11:15 am, ESPN
Philadelphia Eagles (2-2) @ San Francisco 49ers (0-4)
TAB Sportsbet line: San Francisco -3.5
Reason to watch: To see if San Francisco can get off the schneid. The Niners were everyone's pick to win the NFC West, but they've managed to lose games in every conceivable way. After sacking their offensive coordinator, quarterback Alex Smith and the offense looked better last week. Philadelphia meanwhile, has to go back to Kevin Kolb at QB after Michael Vick injured his ribs in a loss to the Redskins. Kolb struggled in Week 1 before sustaining a concussion and paving the way for Vick's resurrection. Aussie Sav Rocca does the punting for the Eagles.
Tuesday, 11:30 am, ESPN
Minnesota Vikings (1-2) @ New York Jets (3-1)
TAB Sportsbet line: NY Jets -4.5
Reason to watch: How do you like your drama? Controversial wide receiver Randy Moss was traded by New England back to Minnesota this week, and he'll be one of Brett Favre's main targets. Favre, who has yet to really fire this season, is dealing with the potential fallout from a "sexting" scandal that may or may not break. The Jets, meanwhile are sailing along at 3-1, looking like the powerhouse that many thought they would be.
