The NFL's divisional playoffs provided an entertaining weekend of football. We had one major upset, one unbelievably dramatic ending, one blowout and one dour defensive struggle.

We're now down to the final four.

The AFC championship will be between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens, the top two seeds in that conference. The NFC, however, has been thrown into disarray, with the two favourites - the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints - gone, and the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants set to battle it out for the title.

This gives us four options for a Super Bowl matchup and all have intriguing storylines.

Potential matchups for Super Bowl XLVI:

New England v New York Giants

Storyline: "Rematch of Super Bowl XLII"

Details: It was one of the greatest Super Bowls ever played, with the underdog Giants stunning the undefeated Patriots 17-14 in 2008. Late in the game, David Tyree - no longer in the league - made one of most remarkable catches in NFL history, pinning the ball one-handed against the top of his helmet as he fell to the ground. Four plays later Eli Manning found Plaxico Burress for the winning touchdown.

In a word: Mouthwatering

Baltimore v San Francisco:

Storyline: "Battle of the Brothers"

Details: Since 2008, Baltimore has been coached by 49-year old John Harbaugh. San Francisco is led by first year head coach Jim Harbaugh, who is one year younger than John. Their father Jack, was a longtime college football coach at schools like Michigan, Pittsburgh, Western Kentucky and Stanford. The Harbaughs are the first set of brothers to serve as NFL head coaches, so a Super Bowl meeting would be unprecedented.

In a word: Historical

Baltimore v New York Giants:

Storyline: "Rematch of Super Bowl XXXV"

Details: The 2001 Super Bowl was one of the strangest in recent times. Baltimore had an ineffective offense, led by journeyman QB Trent Dilfer. But the Ravens had a superb defense, led by Ray Lewis who had just managed to avoid jail time after a plea bargain in a murder case. Baltimore intercepted New York quarterback Kerry Collins four times, returned one of those for a touchdown and also scored on a kickoff return. The final score was 34-7 and Lewis was named MVP.

In a word: Payback

New England v San Francisco

Storyline: "Team of the 2000's v Team of the 80's and 90's"

Details: New England won Super Bowls in 2002, 2004 and 2005, and has one of the most effective quarterback/head coach combinations in NFL history in Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Should Brady earn a fourth Super Bowl ring, he would equal San Francisco legend and Hall of Famer Joe Montana. The 49ers, who won five Super Bowls between 1982 and 1995, were the team Brady supported as a youngster growing up in San Mateo, California.

In a word: Californian
