After a disappointing result in week two, we must now turn our attention to week three of the A-League Season. Still though, I must look back at last weekend's two points lost at the hands of Adelaide. Only one side wanted to win in the second half and that was Central Coast. Then to have a clear penalty not given was extremely frustrating.
However, I digress; we must look ahead to this weekend's tussle against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday afternoon. It will have a special meaning for Mariners midfielder Michael McGlinchey who will be traveling back to New Zealand. The New Zealand international will have to expect some negative voices from the crowd, even though he was one of their World Cup heroes.
Mariners' defender Joshua Rose will return to New Zealand for the first time this weekend, since his time with the New Zealand Knights in the maiden Hyundai A-League season back in 2005/06. Rose will have a point to prove after not performing to his best during his only season with the now defunct club. Rose's new combination with Oliver Bozanic down the left flank was certainly a positive in the 1-1 draw with Adelaide and the Mariners faithful will be looking for a similar display.
Once again, new Mariners playmaker Patricio Perez would have to be close to selection after overcoming his injury set-back. All Mariners fans are excited at the prospect of seeing the new signing on the pitch and it is only a matter of time until it comes into fruition.
With Central Coast sitting third on the table on goal difference and the Phoenix sitting seventh with just one point so far, this match is shaping as a match of extreme importance. The Mariners have been perennial fast starters and slow finishers in most A-League seasons, so all early season points are crucial.
