Sean Walsh blogs on the Melbourne Victory for BPL.

Despite the outcome of the weekends election I'm not talking about politicians.

What have the refs at the last two games been on about?  Against Perth it seemed you could all but take a machete to the opposition without being penalised, this week against North Queensland a foul was blown for innocuous challenges.  Referee Chris Boyle, aka The Git, somehow found wo red cards in this game. The first for a foul in the box but nowhere near being last man. The second for a small shove that the wily, opposition supporters would say devious, Muscat made the most of. It was a silly act but hardly deserving of a red card. The only time he decided not to use his whistle was every second foul in the penalty area.

Now for the elephant in the room, penalties and simulation.

Adelaide's Franjic = Simulation and Karma dictates he injures himself doing it, he then should have received his yellow as he was subbed for good measure.

Kruse = Penalty, stonewall, every time.  Did Kruse make the most of it? Yes but there was plenty of contact about mid shin, didn't touch the ball.  PENALTY.

Dugandzic = Grey area between the two. He probably was impeded but the half twist with pike made a little too much of it.

Ferreira v Hughes = Penalty but only if you want to give 15 a game. It wasn't even the worst example of impeding a player at a corner in this game.  Go back to the tape and watch Victory's first or second corner.  Muscat makes a run to the near post, NQF player holding his left arm back all the way a matter of five yards from the ref in clear unimpeded view. Call them all or keep the bloody whistle away from your gammy mouth.

For Victory the performance was a slight improvement on last week but that's overshadowed by the fact that 11 v 11 we really didn't create too much.  Also going 1 down to terrible defending or keeping at set pieces is becoming a little passe.  In short I'm over it.  Sort it out.

One thing Victory did sort out, hopefully, was the striker situation.  Ricardinho or Little dick to his friends was presented to the crowd and as long as he can deal with the embarrassment at shower time should be a good addition to the side.  Victory also looked much more dangerous with Kruse making runs in behind the defence for Hernandez et al to feed.

Kellaway looked the good when he came on and will be a useful addition to the squad.  Direct, energetic and crosses the ball well from this small piece of evidence. Also good to see Victory finally using a few diagonal balls to the wing where Sukha, Dugandzic and Berger have been in acres of space for the first three weeks.  Now if we can only remember this skill when faced with a full complement of the opposition.

NB For staff at The Stockade (aka AAMI Park), Are the turnstiles counting every fan that enters your lovely stadium? If last week was 20,000, then Sunday was at least a few thousand more than the 13,000 reported.  Oh well, still 2-3 times what our opposition this week will draw.
