Nick Sculley blogs on the Melbourne Heart for BPL.
For the first time this season I'm glad that my prediction for last weekend's game was off the mark!Against the Victory last Friday night the Melbourne Heart were everything that they had promised to be this season; industrious in midfield with a fluid passing game, extremely dangerous down the flanks and a front three that complimented each other perfectly. It would take the most biased of Victory supporters to say the result wasn't deserved; in fact the Heart should've won by a greater margin!
But a win's a win; the town is ours, it's just a shame that the side had to leave the country so abruptly for their next test rather than being able to enjoy the victory. The Melbourne Heart travel to the cake-tin this Sunday to take on the Wellington Phoenix, who haven't lost at home since the dawning of time, but more on that later.
The Melbourne Victory proved to be extremely poor losers this week. We heard through countless media outlets both captain and coach describing the match as their poorest performance of the season, rather than paying the respect due to the way the Heart went about their football.
Prior to the game the discussion centred on what sort of form the Melbourne Derby would take on; would it be comparable to the so-called ‘friendly derby' on Merseyside or spite-filled a la the Madrid Derby. After one clash it's hard to say what sort of derby we have on our hands, however it would be reasonable to say it will be just as competitive as the aforementioned clashes.
Back to the matter at hand, the Heart go into their clash with the Phoenix full of confidence, with a returning captain in Simon Colosimo and Dean Heffernan slotting in to sure up the defence. With Gerald Sibon out suspended, which is a travesty in itself, Rutger Worm will return to the more advanced position he has found himself in for the majority of the season.
After such a big win last week there is the chance of a letdown this weekend; however I'll have none of that! The Heart to win 2-0 in preferably less rain than the conditions the east coast will be facing this weekend!
