There's plenty to like and dislike after Round Two of the A-League. If you're a Melbourne Victory fan, you're probably wondering when this "dream team" is going to actually start playing some football. Harry Kewell - like Brett Emerton - is finding the going on the pitch far tougher than off. Melbourne Heart meanwhile, continue to look rudderless and ineffective, and they will most likely go into this week's derby without new captain Fred, who injured his hamstring. All that, plus Brisbane Roar's joga bonito and John Kosmina doing, umm, what he's always done, in Week Two Like/Dislike:
Like
Adelaide's effort: The Reds copped some flak after a Round One loss to Perth, but their effort against Victory was outstanding. Sure it was only 1-0 and Victory didn't play well, but this was the performance the home folks wanted - and needed - to see.
Sydney FC's Silver Foxes: The team is struggling but at least the Sydney FC coaching triumvirate - Vitezslav Lavicka, Steve Corica and Zeljko Kalac - looks impressive on the bench.
Brisbane's 30-match unbeaten streak: Our country's version of Barcelona (can I say that or does Craig Foster have a copywrite on it?) continues to impress. The Roar's passing is exquisite, they refuse to play the long ball, and if that isn't enough, the finishing is clinical.
Ian Ferguson: The Perth Glory boss went into the season as the coach on the hottest seat in the A-League, with an impending Week Ten review of his performance. Now the former North Queensland Fury coach has started the season with two consecutive wins and one of these days might actually start looking as if he's enjoying himself (doubtful!).
Fox Sports pre- and post-match shows: After watching a full season of AFL on Seven and Ten, it's refreshing to see actual pre- and post-game shows that aren't just match commentators sitting in the booth talking.
Dislike
Mohawks: Certain men can pull off a Mohawk. Unfortunately, Leigh Broxham and Pascal Bosschaart are not two of those men. They might be aiming for the David Beckham look, but it's straight up Travis Bickle. Or for you non-Scorsese fans, Christian Ziege.
Victory in fluorescent yellow: This is what I think about when I see the new Victory away strip: years ago when I was working at Fox Sports World in LA, we bought a bunch of football shirts to use in promotional photo shoots. We had Barcelona, we had Rangers, we had Inter Milan. We also had a neon yellow Borussia Dortmund jersey. Not only did we never use the Dortmund shirt in a promo, but when we had finished shooting and were divvying up the shirts, nobody wanted the neon yellow one. In fact, it sat there all year in a cardboard box.
Brisbane's West Tigers strip: When I tuned in to last week's match at the Sydney Football Stadium, I half expected to see Benji Marshall running around in midfield. While Brisbane's away strip certainly doesn't look bad, it is a bit derivative. But let's be honest, the Roar would look good playing in platform shoes and pencil skirts.
Kosmina/Muscat Cup: I'll try to be diplomatic here. I realise it's important to honour servants of the game, but this is a bit like Carlton and Brisbane playing for the Fevola/Akermanis Cup. Both of these guys are prickly characters, though to be fair to Muscat, he was always well liked off the pitch. Kosmina, on the other hand, has rubbed lots of people the wrong way over the years, and his offensive post-match comment on Fox Sports showed precisely why he's a loose cannon and probably shouldn't be on television.
Fred's hamstring: This has the potential to be devastating for an already-wounded Heart. Not only is Fred entertaining to watch, he's the one guy who can make things happen in the midfield. And somewhere someone's smiling about the fact that John van 't Schip and co. took the captaincy off Simon Colosimo - and gave it to Fred - at least partly because Colosimo was injured too much.
