Melbourne Heart can consider themselves thoroughly unlucky to come away from Saturday night's clash with Melbourne Victory with just a point.

From minute one, the Heart were more positive, more adventurous, and more likely to score. They sent 19 shots at Ante Covic's goal, 13 of which were on target. Victory, by contrast, tested the keeper with just three of their six shots.

However, it was a match of fine build-ups but poor finishing. This was summed up perfectly by a late charge from Maycon. Heart's Brazilian striker ran at Victory's defence, leaving them scrambling for position and visibly anxious. His shot, though, started wide and finished wider.

The nil-all final scoreline was a fair representation of the game.

Heart's Mate Dugandzic was prominent up forward against his old side. He twice forced excellent saves from Covic, and had a hand in several other great plays. Alex Terra and Michael Marrone were also solid performers.

Marco Rojas was Victory's best player, running the left wing to great effect and bamboozling all who tried to stop him. Harry Kewell sent down a few gorgeous deep balls in the second half that released his strikers beautifully and had fans in the stands shaking their heads.

Neither side played with their captain - Adrian Leijer was suspended and Fred was sidelined with a hamstring complaint.

In context, the result has hindered both Melbourne sides.

Victory have just two points, and is still yet to score despite the football world harping on about their attacking options.

Suspicions that the squad will not fully synergise for some time appear to have been confirmed. Suspicions that they will be Kewell-centric in their performance have been proven to be founded, too.

Victory's players seemed under instruction to look for Harry - who turned back the clock to run the left wing in the second half - at every opportunity.

It meant the right flank was a lonely place for those 45 minutes. It also meant that if a Heart player could get between the ball and Kewell, their chances of an interception tripled.

But despite any attacking shortfalls, at least Victory knows that it has one of the best one-on-one keepers in the competition standing behind their defence. Though they haven't scored yet, they've only conceded the one goal.

Heart, despite their superior play on the night, remain at the foot of the table with just one point from three matches.

However, of the two teams, they can take more out of the game. They host Sydney FC next week with the knowledge that, if they produce as many quality chances as tonight, they will likely score a goal or two.

Elsewhere, Sydney FC came back from a goal down to defeat Adelaide United 2-1 at Hindmarsh Stadium. Second-half goals to Jamie Coyne and Nick Carle cancelled out Dario Vidosic's opener and gave the Sky Blues their first win of the season.

On Friday night, Brisbane Roar cruised past Gold Coast United to record a 3-0 win. Roar took the lead in the 14th minute through Erik Paartalu and never looked back. It was their 31st consecutive match undefeated.
