Sydney snatch Heart-breaking draw

Melbourne Heart's frustrating season has hit another snag on as they played out a thrilling draw against Sydney FC.

Maycon appeared to have struck an 85th-minute winner for Heart, but Nick Carle equalised in the 93rd minute to deny the Red and White their first win of the season.

The result extends a string of unlucky results for Heart, and marks the second time they have lost points in second-half stoppage time.

Heart's fans have endured an exasperating start to the season, which began by conceding a stoppage-time winner against Newcastle and hasn't gotten much better since. Last week, the Heart outplayed their rivals in the local derby but walked away with a draw.

But the latest result will be the hardest to swallow. In the context of the game, when Heart snatched the lead so late, they really should have hung on to it. But more broadly, it felt like their season had been given a mighty kick-start. For eight minutes, they were catapulted into the top six; Carle's late goal repressed them in ninth place.

It doesn't get much easier for Heart, either, with road trips to Adelaide and the Gold Coast in the coming three matches. Between them, they host Newcastle - who put three goals past them less than a month ago. If they aren't careful, their merely frustrating season could turn into a genuine nightmare.

At least they don't play Brisbane until December.

As if Brisbane Roar weren't in good enough form, they came ever so close to breaking A-League records with a crushing 7-1 win over Adelaide on Friday night. Five minutes into the game, Adelaide put the first goal for the season into Brisbane's net through Dario Vidosic, and it looked like the Roar were vulnerable.

Enter Besart Berisha. The Albanian slotted a staggering six-minute hat-trick to help the title favourites to a 5-1 half time lead.

By the time Heart face Brisbane, both these matches will be a distant memory. However, if the gap between the two sides is already ten points after just four matches, it could be a lot wider by Round 10.
