The Premier League is a game of inevitability. At the top of the table it's about Manchester City and the next three points keeping them in pole position. Equally, it's about the next managerial sacking this season - most likely Owen Coyle or Steve Kean - after their Bolton and Blackburn sides crashed to defeats.

Kean has been subjected to intense pressure from Rovers fans throughout the season and now Coyle is in danger of copping similar treatment at Wanderers. The matter could be decided as soon as Tuesday night when the two teams clash at Ewood Park.

After falling behind at home to West Brom on Saturday, Blackburn looked to have secured a point when Scott Dann equalised in the 72nd minute but, as happened last week at Sunderland, they conceded late on as Peter Odemwinge fired in a left-footed winner for the Albion. After a brilliant 2010-11, when he netted 15 times in the league, this was just Odewingie's third goal of the season.

If there was anything that may have eased the pressure on Kean, it came in the form of a Fulham onslaught against Coyle's Bolton at Craven Cottage. Whatever hopes Coyle had of sneaking a point by the Thames, they were quickly dowsed in a three-minute period after half-an-hour. First, Clint Dempsey nodded in Bryan Ruiz's cross, before Ruiz finished off Dempsey's flick on. Fulham's record signing, Ruiz is starting to justify the investment with some nice touches, especially crucial at a time when Bobby Zamora has reportedly fallen out with Martin Jol.

In a cracking Sunday fixture, Manchester City sealed a 1-0 home win over Arsenal after dominating the first half and scoring through David Silva. Liverpool was a comfortable 2-0 winner at Villa Park and, as usual, there could easily have been more Reds goals to add to those scored off corners by Craig Bellamy and Martin Skrtel inside the first 15 minutes. Luiz Suarez belted two shots against the post, to make it 18 times Liverpool have now found the woodwork this season. Staggeringly, Suarez has now had 35 shots off target in the league.

Back in London, Spurs took a critical three points against Sunderland, winning 1-0. The victory keeps Spurs in Premier League title contention and came without the injured Gareth Bale.

With its main rivals not playing until Sunday, Chelsea blew a great chance to edge closer to second place in the late kick off on Saturday against Wigan at the DW Stadium. Five days after the season-reviving victory over Man City, Chelsea was on track to add a further three points after a 59th minute strike by Daniel Sturridge but conceded a late equalizer to Jordi Gomez after a Petr Cech clanger in front of goal.

After their immense win over Spurs last weekend and making it through to the knock-out stages of the Europa League midweek, Stoke's great form continued as they picked up three points off Wolves at Molineux. Once again it was Peter Crouch who nabbed the winner which saw Stoke surge up to 24 points on the Premier League table, closing within three of Newcastle in seventh place. There was however a major element of luck for Stoke, where Jonathan Woodgate should have received a second yellow card in just the 17th minute, which left Mick McCarthy not best pleased.

In other matches, Manchester United confirmed the disappointment of missing out on the Champions League knock-out phase was easily forgotten with an easy 2-0 win over QPR at Loftus Road which started which a goal by Wayne Rooney after 55 seconds.

Elsewhere, Everton drew at home to Norwich, with Tim Cahill's scoring drought continuing in spite of 13 headed shots this season, the second most behind Andy Carroll's ridiculous 19.

Swansea secured another valuable point in a goalless draw at St James' Park, which saw Newcastle continue to slide down the ladder after their impressive start to the season.
