THE spot-fixing inquiry into three Pakistan players took a darker twist yesterday.
The tribunal revealed that the International Cricket Council had laid charges over suspicious circumstances during a second Test match in the now-infamous series against England in August last year.
It is alleged Pakistan captain Salman Butt had agreed to play out a maiden over while batting in The Oval Test against England - a match Pakistan won by four wickets. It is unclear whether Butt followed through on the plan, but a charge relating to that Test still hands over his head. Charges against teammates Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif from The Oval Test were dropped to expedite a decision on incidents during the final Test of the series at Lord's which were revealed by a News of the World sting.
