AFTER what Graeme McDowell called the "worst-kept secret in golf", Jose Maria Olazabal was confirmed yesterday as Europe's Ryder Cup captain for the match against the United States in Chicago next year.
Within minutes of his appointment being confirmed at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club, the Spaniard was stamping his mark on the captaincy by suggesting that he would like only two captain's picks instead of the three given to Colin Montgomerie, who led Europe to victory at Celtic Manor last October.
Olazabal's opposite number at Medinah in 20 months' time is expected to be Davis Love III, an old and respected adversary.
