An injury-strewn Rafael Nadal has dramatically exited the Australian Open after falling to countryman David Ferrer in straight sets on Wednesday night.
The world No.1's bid to win four consecutive Grand Slam tournaments was thwarted by what appeared to be soft tissue problem as the seventh seed Ferrer prevailed in the quarter-final 6-4 6-2 6-3 at Rod Laver Arena.
Nadal left the court for a medical timeout after the opening three games for what appeared to be a hamstring or thigh problem.
