CONSIGNED to its death bed in the past few years, the one-day game appeared in surprisingly rude health as the combatants met for the fourth contest of a seven-match series. A packed house greeted the sides and all seemed engrossed in the contest. Admittedly it was a public holiday and glorious weather prevailed, but the previous matches have also been well attended and spectators were given value for money.
It was a far cry from the matches against Sri Lanka played before echoing stands containing a collection of cheerful Lankans and otherwise entirely devoid of spirit. Perhaps the quality or duration of the cricket were not the problems. No one likes to be sold a dud. Or maybe it was too early in the season.
