An understandably teary Kim Clijsters can now call herself an Australian champion in a far more tangible way than just being loved by all.
Fittingly, four-time winner Evonne Goolagong, the last mum to win this title, was seated only a few rows back at the northern end to witness an adopted Aussie's moment of glory.
The fiercely determined Belgian, runner-up to compatriot Justine Henin here seven long years ago, wasn't going to be denied this time.
