Geelong battling for Big Bash franchiseMELBOURNE and Geelong are in a head-to-head battle to win a new Twenty20 national competition franchise for next season.
With a new eight-team, city-based Twenty20 format due to be finalised at a Cricket Australia meeting next week, Geelong is desperately trying to win support to become the new team.
Victoria is assured of getting one of the two new franchises, but there is divided opinion within Cricket Victoria and its national body as to where the second team should be placed.
