CANTERBURY forward Ryan Tandy was under pressure to stand down from club duties last night after a raid of his Sydney home resulted in him becoming the first person charged in relation to the NRL's betting scandal.
Five months after suspicions were raised over betting activity on the round-24 game between the Bulldogs and North Queensland in Townsville, police arrested Tandy and charged him with providing false evidence to a law enforcement agency.
The 29-year-old was granted conditional bail and will appear at the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney on March 3 - just 11 days before he is due to play in the Bulldogs' season opener against Wests Tigers. He faces up to five years' imprisonment if found guilty of the charge.
