THE Sheffield Shield final appears set to stay but next summer's first-class competition is in danger of being cut by two rounds to create room for Cricket Australia's revamped Twenty20 Big Bash competition.
A high-ranking CA official has told The Age that the move to abbreviate the shield season will be canvassed today at a CA board meeting in Melbourne, where talks will be dominated by Australia's humiliating Ashes capitulation and the introduction of the new Big Bash League.
