A POORLY managed expansion program is a key factor behind the A-League's plummeting crowd figures, according to the Professional Footballers' Association chief, Brendan Schwab.
Tuesday night's fixture between North Queensland Fury and Brisbane Roar is the new low watermark in the history of A-League attendances. The crowd of 1003 was the result of a series of mitigating factors, most pertinently the devastating Cyclone Yasi, which forced the relocation of the match from Townsville on a Saturday to the Gold Coast on a Tuesday.
While this event is clearly an anomaly, there is growing concern about the league's crowds after three years of expansion.
