THE perils of A-League expansion will be reflected in a loss of up to $2.5 million for the competition's latest addition, Melbourne Heart.
Despite an encouraging foundation season in the league, with attendance and membership figures that bettered more than half of all other A-League clubs and a role in a derby with Melbourne Victory that offered the most tribal experiences of the season, a hefty operational loss will be the upshot.
Chief executive Scott Munn said yesterday that the final figure would be "upwards of $2 million", a sum larger than anticipated but not so large as to come as a "shock" to the board or the FFA, he added.
