The veteran midfielder appeared to headbutt Tottenham assistant manager Joe Jordan - a former Milan player - before Spurs manager Harry Redknapp tried to separate the pair.
Gattuso had clashed with Jordan earlier in the game, grabbing him by the throat in the Spurs dugout.
The Milan captain was also booked in the 75th minute and will miss the return leg at White Hart Lane.
Crouch scored with 10 minutes remaining after Aaron Lennon had broken clear from his own half..
