RICKY Ponting is free to focus on winning a fourth World Cup after the International Cricket Council last night spared the Australian captain of major sanctions for damaging a television set.
In a boost for the Australians ahead of their clash against New Zealand tomorrow, Ponting escaped with a slap on the wrist after accepting a Level 1 charge following a dressing-room outburst in his side's 91-run defeat of Zimbabwe last Monday.
The 36-year-old received a reprimand, but will not be suspended or fined any portion of his $6480 match fee. Ponting was found to have breached clause 2.1.2 of the ICC code of conduct, which relates to "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match".
