NRL chief executive David Gallop wants to meet Todd Carney face-to-face this week to hear how the embattled Sydney Roosters five-eighth is going to handle his battle with alcohol.
Carney met Roosters coach Brian Smith and chief executive Steve Noyce yesterday to discuss his demons after being charged over the weekend with drink-driving. Noyce and Smith later headed to the NRL offices to bring Gallop up to speed, although the club is still trying to determine the best course of action to help its star player.
"Steve Noyce and Brian Smith came to see me in my office this afternoon," Gallop said last night. "They are still working through their position with Todd.
