Barcelona kill off Arsenal challenge

21.57: Oliver Brown: "724 passes for Barcelona, versus Arsenal's 199. Needs little embroidery, really."

21.55: Robin Van Persie: "It's a total joke. How can I hear his whistle with 90,000 people out there jumping up? Explain me that. For God's sake. He's been a joke all evening, whistling against us... Unbelievable, these people."

21.52: Apparently Wenger was yelling at the referee at the end. Fair enough - it was harsh to send Van Persie off for a puny infraction. But Arsenal were steamrollered out there. In any case, I'll stick around to report his seething words should he issue any.

21.47: Wow, now there's a stat. Barcelona: 10 shots on target out of 21. Arsenal: Zero shots on target. Out of zero. Arsenal didn't get a shot in.

90 min+4: That's it. Barcelona endured a few moments' pressure at the death, but they finish as they played for ninety minutes: passing it around in Arsenal's half. Arsenal are out; Barcelona, if it bears repeating, are phenomenal.

90 min+3: Rarely for him, Wilshere dawdles in possession and doesn't pick out any of his team mates before they're swarmed by blue-and-red shirts. Surely Barca can just play this out at their leisure now. Arsenal are spent.

90 min+1: Arsenal are in Barca's half once more, but not for long. Arsenal's 10 are too strung out; trying to create an opening has been next to impossible (Except four three minutes ago, Bendtner). Barcelona have just been all over Arsenal. There'll be two more added minutes.

87 min: Oh Nicklas! Bendtner has the chance to punish Barca for their profligacy and he fluffs it. Nasri's long ball from the right, Bendtner gets between Busquets and Abidal; he's clear in the area if he can just shoot before Valdes smothers it. He can't, obviously. What a goof.
