Prohibit flew home in the final furlong under Jim Crowley to gain his first Group race success and provide trainer Robert Cowell with the biggest success of his career in the five furlong contest.
The six year old gelding has been knocking on the door this season in G2 events and Crowley timed his challenge to perfection to score by a half length old over an equally strong finish from the Danny O'Brien-trained Star Witness.
O'Brien and Melbourne jockey Steve Arnold felt an average start did not help Star Witness, who was very easy in the betting after being the pre-post favourite.
