The unstarry, unaffected Petra Kvitova, a 21 year-old from the Czech Republic who thinks of herself as a "jeans and T-shirt" kind of girl, played with a nerveless ease to defeat the moneyed and honeyed Maria Sharapova in the Wimbledon final and claim her first grand slam title.
It had been widely supposed that the final would bring a comeback victory for the world's highest-earning sportswoman, the polished and sun-buttered Sharapova, yet the Siberian's tournament was hijacked by someone who looks as though she is not fully aware of how good she is.
