While fans desperately sought a simple explanation of the off-throttle diffuser row that has dominated the buildup to qualifying for this year's British Grand Prix, the action on track was proving that, while the technicians and the rule-makers pontificated, little has changed at the sharp end, with Red Bull's Mark Webber taking pole position and his team-mate Sebastian Vettel completing a front row lock-out.
A meeting was held just before qualifying to discuss the diffuser issue and concluded with a decision to stick to the rule changes implemented at the start of the weekend. The ramifications will drag on, but here at Silverstone it made no difference to Red Bull's dominance.
