An overwhelmed Cadel Evans has thanked the legions of fans gathered in central Melbourne to mark his victory in the Tour de France.
Evans, the first Australian to win the Tour, received a huge ovation when he stepped on stage.
"This is great, fantastic, everyone's missing out on school and work, right?" Evans asked the crowd.
