When Sir Alex Ferguson sets out his team to host Arsenal next Sunday, the United manager will not think about the titles he has won, or the promise of some of his younger players. He will focus exclusively on those 90 minutes, on outwitting Wenger and Arsenal and claiming the three points.
Wenger seems in denial. He needs somebody to talk to him, just as his friend David Dein did when vice-chairman of Arsenal, nudging this stubborn man to appreciate that his purist principles need tempering for now.
