The Herald Sun can confirm the 30-year-old is still suffering from foot soreness and today made the tough call to pull the pin on the final Grand Slam of the season.
"It was a gut-wrenching decision for Lleyton, particularly given it is the 10-year anniversary since he won the tournament," Hewitt's manager David Drysdale said.
Although Hewitt is determined to plan on, and his competitive fires are still raging, it is a another significant blow in a frustrating year.
