An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said a jockey suffered a shoulder injury after a fall from a horse at Flemington and was taken to Epworth Hospital in a stable condition.
Crystal Lily won the world's richest race for two-year-olds, the $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes, in 2010.
The mare's trainers Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra said on their Twitter account: "Not a lot to say at this point. We're devastated. Thanks to everyone for the support."
Zahra, who was watching from the grandstand, said the mare suffered a suspected heart attack during the jump-out.
