An Australian walks into a bar in Calgary during the 1988 Winter Olympics. He meets a fellow reveler, from Baton Rouge, La. They bond over shots of tequila, and a friendship forms that lasts to this day, as do others that sprang from it.
David Wing, the Australian, tried out unsuccessfully for the Detroit Lions and played a season with the Scottish Claymores of N.F.L. Europe. His former agent Dave Tiede, whose friendship was a byproduct of Wing's conversation in the bar, lives in Baton Rouge. And that is a major reason David Wing's son, Brad, is now the punter for Louisiana State.
