IF Australia is serious about the future in the wake of the first Test debacle against South Africa then Patrick Cummins must replace Mitchell Johnson.
Given that performance and potential are the two key criteria for selection then serious changes must be made for the second Test in Johannesburg, beginning on Thursday.
Cummins should be chief amongst them after Johnson's poor 2011, which has yielded just 11 wickets in five Tests at an average of 52. This does not mean that 18-year-old Cummins in ready for the constant rigours of a full international career just yet, or Johnson is finished.
