Melbourne Victory left behind a week of intense criticism and media speculation with a pulsating and much-needed 3-2 victory over Gold Coast United at AAMI Park on Sunday.
With just one win from their first seven matches, Victory looked well on their way to silencing their doubters by taking a 2-0 lead inside 23 minutes courtesy of a pair of penalties converted by Harry Kewell and Carlos Hernandez.
It all fell to pieces, however, after veteran defender Rodrigo Vargas was shown a straight red card and the visitors drew level with two goals either side of the break.
