THERE was no record crowd - not even close - to see Shane Warne return to cricket at the MCG last night and he was put in the shade anyway by David Warner, who inaugurated the Big Bash League with a remarkable Twenty20 century less than a week after carrying his bat in a Test.
Three summers ago at the same ground, Warner became the poster boy for the Twenty20 revolution with an explosive 89 from 43 balls against South Africa before he had even played a first-class match, but the 25-year-old is much more than that now.
