The 34 year-old rejoined the club he left for Barcelona in 2007 on a short-term loan deal from New York Red Bulls - and did not disappoint on his second debut when he slotted home 12 minutes from time as the resistance of the Championship club was finally broken. Henry will be available for a six-week spell at Arsenal which will take in matches against Manchester United and, in the Champions League, AC Milan, possibly even the showdown with arch-rivals Tottenham on February 26.
Given his 20 minute cameo masterclass, that could just be the spark Arsenal need to push on towards a successful end to a season which started so badly. But it's doubtful he will produce anything as dramatic as his fairytale winner against Leeds.
"I never thought I was going to play for Arsenal again or score a winner," Henry said. "I love the club and I hope I can do more. I hope it won't be the last one. The feeling I had when I scored was amazing."
