JOEL Selwood has been named the new Geelong Cats captain with Jimmy Bartel his vice captain.
The reigning AFL premiers also announced this afternoon that mercurial forward Steve Johnson has been elevated into the leadership team.
Selwood was the popular choice to take over the captaincy reins from retired club legend Cameron Ling but at only 23 there was some speculation that he might have to further bide his time.
The leadership group also includes Joel Corey, James Kelly, Harry Taylor and Corey Enright.
