Lawrence Tynes kicked a 31-yard field goal almost eight minutes into overtime Sunday to give the Giants a 20-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the N.F.C. Championship game at Candlestick Park.
It was the second time in four years that Tynes had kicked an overtime field goal to send the Giants to the Super Bowl. This time, just as in 2008, his kick earned the Giants a date with the New England Patriots in the N.F.L.'s championship game.
