Carey: Eagles to consign Cats to more pain

WAYNE CAREY, voted in a Herald-Sun poll last week as the greatest AFL player of the past 21 years, speaks to BackPageLead in his exclusive weekly interview. The dual premiership captain expresses amazement at Essendon's win over Geelong on Saturday - saying he'd underestimated the influence of former coach Mark Thompson in declawing some key Cats - but says the result might have exposed one or two chinks in Geelong's set-up, especially in the forward line. As a result, he's tipping West Coast to make it two straight defeats by knocking the Cats off in Perth on Friday night. Carey maintains Hawthorn can still win the flag, despite its mounting injury toll - and explains why Jason Akermanis might have to line up on the bench in Tuesday night's EJ Whitten All Stars game.
